Scott Barry Crown earns Ph.D

Scott Barry Crown, the son of Barry and Wanda Crown of Effort was hooded as a doctor of philosophy in chemical engineering at the University of Delaware on May 24.

Over the past five years, Crown attended the University of Delaware and published six manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. On May 17 he presented the defense of his Ph.D. dissertation, Novel Methodologies for Isotopic Tracer and Experiment Design: Applications to 13C-Metabolic Flux Analysis and Isotopic Studies.Crown has accepted a metabolic engineering position at Gevo, a small biotech company in Englewood, Colo. Gevo produces isobutanol for use in fuel additives, the development of jet fuels, and the manufacturing of "green" plastics. He will start his new position June 10.He graduated from Lafayette College in 2008 with a B.S. in chemical engineering and Pleasant Valley High School in 2004.Scott is engaged to Diane Pham to be married on July 5, 2013 at Fort Williams Park near the Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.They were guests of honor with family and friends at a graduation party, bridal shower, and farewell gathering at PJ Whelihan's at Platz's June 2 before departing for Colorado.Crown is the grandson of Erwin and Alice Schnell of Palmerton and Dorothy Crown of the Village at Palmerton.
