The Village salutes its volunteers at annual luncheon

The Village at Palmerton hosted its annual Volunteer's Luncheon recently. Twenty-six volunteers attended, and enjoyed a meal and fellowship with others who give of their time and talents.

Those attending included Charley Brown Nursery School director Susan Steigerwalt and teachers Natalie Rodger, Connie Smith and Terri Wambold; Bob and Larry Sheckler, members of Joyful Noise Gospel Group; Anita Harry, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Paul Brownback, Arcadia Hospice Spiritual Care coordinator.Also attending were the Rev. Brian Haas of Christ UCC in Walnutport; the Rev. James LeVan and Earl, Eveyln and Emily Buss of the First Baptist Church, Slatington; and a large group from the Bethany Wesleyan Church, Cherryville; and Jeanne and Leah Hoover, a mother/daughter weekend activities volunteer team. Counted among the senior outreach volunteers are: Laura, Michael, Mason and Josh Kichline; Susan and Wesley Hoyle; and Kathy, Nathan, Eli, Josh and Aliya DeKorte."We should all be so fortunate as to have such caring people to share their time with seniors and enjoy doing it," said Liz Arndt, The Village at Palmerton activities coordinator.Many other volunteers were not able to attend due to work and prior commitments, including several pet therapy dogs and their owners who visit each month, as well as people from the community who take time to play bells at the holidays and come to sing carols at Christmas; Boy and Girl Scout troops and other church groups.Arndt was joined by administrator Terri Kotch in saying, "Happy Volunteers Week to everyone who takes time to make someone else smile or laugh. Thank you all."
