Black Diamond Garden Party coming to Jim Thorpe

Bob Stevenson, board member of St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, and Taylor Handwerk, an organizer for the St. Luke's Black Diamond Garden Party, met on the steps of Stevenson's historic home, which was once the residence of local doctor George Thomas, in downtown Jim Thorpe to announce the details of St. Luke's Hospital Miners Campus Black Diamond Garden Party.

The Kemmerer Park Committee will help host the fundraising event in the park on Saturday, June 1.This year's event will be a business-casual garden party featuring fine food and drinks, live music and guided tours of the Asa Packer Mansion and Kemmerer Carriage House.Activities for guests at the event will include tethered hot air balloon rides (weather permitting).Guests at this year's Black Diamond Garden Party can also participate in another interactive activity called "Doctors of History and Future," featuring local historic doctors from the past and current medical students who will be our future doctors.Volunteers will portray and share the stories of dedicated doctors who have served the area in the past, including Dr. Erwin, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Mala, Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Steele, Dr. Shifferstine and Dr. Bonner.Also, 29 current medical students of Temple University/ St. Luke's Medical School will enjoy activities for that weekend and meet community members who attend the event.Proceeds from this year's Black Diamond Garden Party will support a medical scholarship fund to bring future doctors to the area.Admission is by reservation only and anyone desiring more information about the event can go to
