George A "Geo" Millet has been named as the Grand Marshall for Tamaqua's Memorial Day Parade, which will be held May 27.

Millet is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and has been a proud member of the Tamaqua American Legion, C.H. Berry Post 173, for 45 years. After receiving infantry training at Camp Croft in South Carolina, Millet served with the US Occupation Forces in Germany, as a member of the 3112th Signal Service Battalion.Married to the former Lois Erbe, he has two sons, George E. and his wife, Elaine, and Richard and his companion, Anne Marie; and a daughter, Deborah A., deceased. He also has two grandchildren, Robert Long and his wife, Jennie, and Samuel and his companion; and two great grandchildren, Harper and Vaughn.The parade will form in the last block of East Broad Street and participants are asked to be there no later than 9:45 a.m., as the parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.Following the parade, at 11 a.m., a memorial service will be held at the Soldier's Circle in Odd Fellows Cemetery, honoring all deceased veterans. participants will include the Rev. Kevin Roberts, Grand Marshall Millet, Poppy Queens Shelby and Ariel Frederickson, BPW Woman of the year Lacey Folweiler, members of the Tamaqua American Legion and guest speaker Daniel Smith.Smith is a veteran of the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with the Second Marine Division from 1972 to 1974 and is married to the former Laura Harvey. The couple has two sons.
