There's little or no pay, and not much respect. But I'm glad that someone is willing to do it.I'm hoping Tim Tebow catches on with another NFL team and becomes a pro-bowl quarterback, silencing his many critics. Also it would be nice to see him come back some day and beat the Jets, who cut him this week.Whoever is circulating the very graphic photos taken of the victims immediately after the Boston Marathon bombings should be ashamed of themselves.A lot of TIMES NEWS police log items involve the theft of copper tubing from building sites or home construction sites. To me it seems like lot of work removing the tubing. Is is worth it? Are the thieves getting that much money from junk dealers?It's Saturday morning, time for a smile or two. Simple research into the history of the game would have prevented those flaws. But you just had to know that baseball historians were going to go over the film with a fine-tooth comb, looking for errors.I can't wait to read Yankees relief ace Mariano Rivera's upcoming autobiography "The Closer" when it hits book shelves after the season. Meanwhile, I'll just continue to marvel at the performance of the best relief pitcher to ever play the game as he completes his final season in the Major Leagues.May 12 is Mother's Day. Circle the calendar and prepare to celebrate it. It's the most important holiday of the year.The U.S. Open Golf Tournament returns to Merion Golf Course near Philadelphia this June. It will be the fifth time the classic was held there.I recall I was a spectator at the third U.S. Open played at Merion, back in 1971.The tournament was played on the historic site's East Course, and that was where Lee Trevino won his second Open title, beating Jack Nicklaus by three strokes in an eighteen-hole Monday playoff.I wasn't there for the playoff, but I witnessed the third round, played on Saturday. The highlight of that day was watching 20-year-old amateur Jim Simons shoot a 65, one shot off the tournament record. He took a 54-hole lead into the final round, and eventually finished fifth.I'm mildly interested in the NBA basketball playoffs, and not interested at all in the NHL hockey playoffs. But, like every year the Major League Baseball season is my main interest in the summer months, and will continue to be so until football season begins, and then baseball will share top billing with the college and NFL teams.The Phillies' Ray Halliday didn't last four innings in his last start against the Cleveland Indians.
