Electronic recycling

Due to new regulations, residents of Tamaqua are no longer able to place old electronic devices out for curbside pick up on trash day. To alleviate the hardship this has caused Advanced Green Solutions Inc. will hold a free electronic recycling event from 8 a.m. until noon, May 18 at the Tamaqua Transfer Station, 20 Sewer Plant Road, Tamaqua.Items to be collected and recycled include: televisions, telephones, cell phones, keyboards, cables, cords, CRT monitors, copiers, printers, fax machines, stereos, speakers, DVD players, VCRs, video game systems, LCD monitors, word processors, hard drives, desktop/laptop computers and other miscellaneous electronics equipment.For more information, call (570) 668-4515.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 23 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 49 members in attendance and one guest Phyllis Bergman. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation.Reports were offered by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Gloria Gerhard. Julia and Barb Clauser were welcomed back.Birthday greetings were extended to Neal Flexer, Gladys Arner and Danny Metzger. A birthday cake was donated in honor of Danny's birthday.The next meeting is the May 14 anniversary dinner. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company.Older and BolderThe Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets every Wednesday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Information and assistance will be provided for service connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St., May 13, June 10 and July 8.YMCA preschoolThe Tamaqua YMCA is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year. Classes are available for ages 3, 4 and 5.
