Miller Blood Drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct its bimonthly Palmerton community blood drive on Monday, April 22, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall. This drive is sponsored by Kyle, Erica and Jonah Ahner.This area has many faithful donors who appear for nearly every blood drive, but new and additional donors are always needed. Minimum requirements are: 17 years old (no maximum age); weight 110 pounds; no tattoos or body piercing within the last 12 months; general good health. Each prospective donor will receive a free mini-physical: pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and hemoglobin (blood iron level).If you donate, Miller will report your total cholesterol. And you will be given free refreshments, including sandwiches and doughnuts, plus the snacks and soft drinks that Miller provides. Your donation can save up to three lives.First-time donors should bring photo ID, such as a driver's license. This is a pictorial print competition. Class B is for beginners; Class A is for advanced or winners from Class B in previous salons.There will be black and white and color categories in each class. The festival will be held June 1 in the borough park.Palmerton libraryTail Waggin' Tutors, kids read to dogs, takes place the second Saturday of each month from 11-noon. The event is free, but parents must register for a time slot by calling the library at (610) 826-3424. The next program will be April 13.Preschool Story Hour is offered every Friday at 10:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public.Homework Helpers, volunteer tutors who will help your child with his homework, meets every Wednesday, 2:45 p.m. grades 7-12 and 3:15 p.m., grades 1-6. The program is free but parents register each child.The Teen Advisory Group welcomes new members of teens in grades 5-12. Children who come dressed for the boardwalk will receive a free playing card.Roger Latzgo will perform at the library on Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. The performance, "Celebrate nature with song," is free and open to the public.A Medicare seminar will be offered at Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. This free seminar is presented by Aetna.Library volunteers from 2012 will be honored at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 at 9 a.m. during the "Breakfast of Champions."
