A Carbon County man pleaded guilty on Tuesday in the county court in four pending criminal cases and faces a long prison term when sentenced at a later date.

He was one of 13 defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass durng a daylong session of court.Gun countsRandy Edwin Merriman, 56, of Albrightsville, pleaded to gun counts and other charges.He pleaded to one count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from possessing a weapon for an incident on March 15, 2012. He was charged by state police at Fern Ridge for having several weapons in a residence at 136 Chippewa Trail in Penn Forest Township.He was arrested for another weapons count on July 12, 2012, when troopers were alerted that Merriman had purchased a shotgun and brought it to his residence. He was charged with another count of possession of a firearm by a person phohibited from possessing a weapon.He was also charged with impersonating a public servant (a police officer) for an incident on Oct. 25, 2011, in Penn Forest Township. He told a victim that he was a police officer from New Jersey. He was also found to have a vehicle with emergency lights and siren, which he was prohibited from possessing. He pleaded to two summary motor vehicle code violations in connection with that incident.He also pleaded to driving under the influence (DUI) for an incident on July 2, 2012, along Old Stage Road, in Penn Forest Township. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.In a plea bargain with the district attorney's office other counts were dropped with an agreed sentence to be imposed of 40 to 80 months in a state prison.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation (PSI) report.Merriman is currently an inmate in the county prison.Other casesOther defendants who entered pleas before Serfass included:Terry Williams, 61, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases to three counts of simple assault with the same victim in both cases.He was charged for an incident on Feb. 28 at 111 Jamestown St., Mahoning Township. Police responded to the residence and found that Williams had assaulted Crystal West. On scene officers observed West had suffered a swollen right eye and other facial injuries inflicted by Williams by punching her. She was taken to the Lehighton hospital for treatment.On March 3 police were called to the hospital where West was being treated for injuries she sustained in another assault by Williams at her home.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI.Damien Lamont Black, 29, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of criminal attempt to secure a controlled substance by misrepresentation.He was arrested for an incident on July 20, 2012, at the Rite Aid pharmacy in Lehighton. He presented a forged prescription to the pharmacy for oxycodone. The pharmacist realized it was a forged document and notified borough police. When Black returned to pickup the prescription police were waiting for him and took him into custody.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI.Ryan Sean Cebrosky, 21, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested by Palmerton police for taking the 1994 Suzuki Sidekick of Nancy Robinson on Jan. 10, along with a credit card and cash of the victim.Serfass sentenced him to serve two to 12 months in prison, render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, and make restitution of $117.70 to the victim.He was given credit for 77 days spent in jail on the charges. Although he has served his minimum in on the charge he will remain in prison as he is serving a sentence for parole violations.Patrick Thomas McGee, 32, of Ashland, and formerly of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin.He was arrested by agents of the state Attorney General's office on Feb. 13, at a residence along Lauchnor Grove Lane, in Lehighton.Police made a controlled buy at the residence, then a short time later served a search warrant and found drugs in the residence.Serfass sentenced him to serve three to one day less 24 months in prison and ordered he get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, render 100 hours of community service when released on parole, and supply a DNA sample.He was given credit for 64 days spent in jail on the charge.Justin Allen Lawlor, 31, of Andreas, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was charged by Mahoning Township police with taking items valued at $386.33 from the Walmart store on Feb. 5. He was stopped exiting the store with a shopping cart filled with various items.Serfass placed him on probation for 24 months and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 100 hours of community service.Darrin Aenee Griffin Jr., 33, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, as a felony two. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident at 140 Patten Circle, in Penn Forest Township.Troopers responded to the residence to a report of a burglary. Griffin was found nearby with some items removed from the home. A burglary charge was dropped in a plea bargain.Serfass deferred sentencing to a later date.David Betz, 30, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count each of burglary and theft. He was arrested for an incident on Nov. 21, 2012, at the residence of Lois Dieter, 434 Cypress St., by Lehighton police. Jewelry was taken in a break-in.Serfass deferred sentencing to a later date.Matthew Ronald Werley, 22, of Walnutport, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on May 16, 2012, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along SR209.Serfass imposed a fine of $250.DUI casesThe following defendants entered pleas to driving under the influence (DUI).Jonathan Exner, 22, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 3 by Lehighton police along First St. Given a test, the result was .13BAC. He also pleaded to fleeing and eluding police, as a felony three offense. After police attempted to stop him he fled and led them on a chase. He abandoned his vehicle a time later and fled on foot but was apprehended by officers.On the fleeing and eluding charge Serfass sentenced him to serve six to one day less 24 moths in the count prison. He was given credit for 51 days spent to date in jail on the charge.On the DUI count he was placed on probation for six months, concurrent to the fleeing count, and ordered to pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community servie.Bryan Hildebrant, 37, of Kunkletown, was arrested on Oct. 5, 2012, along SR443 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.Hildebrant is currently in the Monroe County prison on other charges.Raymond Matthew Dotter, 50, of Blakeslee, was arrested on Oct. 21, 2010, along SR209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .31BAC. He also pleaded to driving under suspension-DUI related.On the suspension count Serfass sentenced him to serve six to 12 months in prison, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, render 50 hours of community service, and pay a fine of $1,000. He will also lose his license for a year.On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 10 days to one day less 12 months in prison, pay a fine of $500, one year license suspension, and render 100 hours of community service, for a total of 150. The prison terms run consecutive.Jenna Marie Crisman, 28, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on Nov. 22, 2012, along Pohopoco Drive, in Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .18BAC.She was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service. On a summary offense she was fined $25.She will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on April 19 and serve it on consecutive weekends.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
