Wardens to check for dog licenses

The Pa. Department of Agriculture has announced dog wardens will be canvassing the Lehighton and Franklin Township areas during the week of April 22 to check that dogs are properly licensed and vaccinated.

The department said all dogs three months old or older must be licenses by Jan. 1 of each year. The fee is $6.45 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.45 each for other dogs. Older adults and persons with disabilities may purchase a license for $4.45 for each spayed or neutered dog and $6.45 each for others.Additionally, all dogs and non-feral cats three months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.The department said violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation, plus couort costs.Licenses can be purchased through the Carbon County Treasurer's office by calling 570-325-2251 or by vitiing
