Food pantry

The Friends in Need Food Pantry, located at Trinity United Church of Christ, is seeking donations to replenish their shelves. Needed nonperishable items include: April, baked beans and applesauce: May, spaghetti sauce and pasta; June, soups.The pantry assists Tamaqua Area School District families in need by providing groceries.The pantry also needs monetary donations to continue providing these families with perishable food items, which are included in every food order.Donations may be taken to Trinity's church office. For more information, call (570) 668-4139.Youth field dayThe Schuylkill County Sportsmen's Association is sponsoring its annual Schuylkill County Youth Field Day for all county residents between the ages of 10 and 15. The event will be held May 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Friedensburg Fish and Game Association.Activities could include fishing, trap shooting, canoeing, black powder shooting, turkey calling, trapping, archery, stream restoration and more.Registration is limited to 120 and each child must be accompanied by an adult.To register, call Porcupine Pat McKinney at (570) 622-4124, ext. 113 or email porcupinepat @yahoo.com.Volunteers neededThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee is in need of volunteers to help make improvements to the ward. An open house will be held at the South Ward Community Center at 7 p.m. on April 18. The community center is located at the South Ward Playground.Free refreshments will be available.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. The service will include a performance by the "Unrehearsed Choir." Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a game night will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the social hall. Everyone is welcome to bring their favorite game and snacks to share.SS. Peter and PaulThe Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. on April 24 in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rehearsal will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.
