A Summit Hill woman charged with hitting three individuals including two elementary school students with her car at a bus stop in Summit Hill has waived a preliminary hearing.

Maxine A. Royer, 53, of West Walter Street, is facing numerous charges from an incident which occurred on Feb. 7 at about 8:25 a.m. at Market and Hazard streets.She was scheduled to have a hearing before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford, but opted to have the counts waived to Carbon County Court.One of the victims in the incident, an 8-year-old girl, was seriously injured and required hospital treatment.Royer was charged by Summit Hill Chief of Police Joseph Fittos Jr. with three counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, stop signs and yield signs, driving at a safe speed, careless driving, and meeting or overtaking a school bus.Fittos said in his affidavit that upon arrival at the scene of the incident, he observed the 8-year-old girl lying on the ground next to the Head Start bus, being attended to by a registered nurse and an emergency medical technician.He alleges in the affidavit that Royer "was heading West on West Hazard Street, traveling at a higher than reasonable rate of speed, blowing her horn. This bus stop gets very congested with parents, students, and vehicles. The defendant then drove around a vehicle that was unloading a child near the intersection of Hazard and Market Street and failed to stop at the stop sign of that intersection."The affidavit continues, "The defendant then made a right turn onto Market Street where (the 8-year-old girl) was struck by the defendant's vehicle." The girl was dragged for a distance of 25 feet, nine inches, Fittos alleges.Royer is accused of then backing up her vehicle and running over a 7-year-old girl's foot. The 7-year-old is a sister of the other victim.A male, Brian Newton, was also struck by Royer's vehicle, says the affidavit.All three victims received medical treatment.All the charges against Royer are misdemeanors. Because of this, no bail amount was set.
