The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its March meeting in the social hall of Zion Church in the Valley. June Leiby presided over the business meeting.The meeting included a plant exchange. Judges for the arrangement and specimen contest were Karen Winkleman and Evelyn Berger. Winners in both categories were: June Leiby, first place; Mary Bridygham, second place; and Evelyn Adams, third place.The Lewistown Club's Annual Spring Tea is scheduled for April 30 in the social hall of Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Members are reminded to bring tea cups, finger sandwiches and desserts. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (570) 668-4288 or 467-3400. Set up for the tea will be held at 9 a.m. the same day. Evelyn Adams will provide the table arrangements and guest speaker will be Penn State Master Gardener Clara Zimmer. Her topic will be mints/herbs and their many uses. The tea committee is Louise Flexer, June Leiby, Judy Kellner and Mary Bridygham.Volunteers will be needed to help with the various county buildings during the Schuylkill County Fair, which will be held July 27 through Aug. 3. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on April 7 and receive Holy Communion as a group.A rosary will be said before the Mass.Drivers neededThe Carbon/Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society is in need of volunteer drivers for its "Road to Recovery" program. The program provides volunteer transportation to cancer patients to and from their treatment sessions.Drivers are an important part of a patient's recovery, providing moral support and a sympathetic ear. Volunteer drivers and coordinators provide a crucial service to patients whose friends and families are unable to drive them to every appointment. Retirees, students, homemakers or anyone with some spare time can volunteer to use their own private vehicles to help those in need.
