Shepherd House, Inc., is a food pantry system serving Carbon County in nine food pantries located throughout the county. The goal of Shepherd House Inc. is to continue to distribute emergency food supplies to the needy in Carbon County.

This worthwhile and important resource has been in existence for the past 29 years due to the efforts of hardworking volunteers and by way of funding them state government grants and the Carbon County United Way. In February, 2013, the pantries served a total of 1,004 households which included a total of 1,397 adults, 736 children and 429 elderly.The pantries' needs are ever increasing. The numbers of people asking for help to put food on their tables are rising by the month in all of the pantries. Faced with the challenge of higher food costs and state government grant money decreasing every year it makes it increasingly difficult to keep food on the pantry shelves. To make up for the budget shortfall, Shepherd House must depend on the donations of food and money in order to continue to distribute food supplies where and when they are needed. Donations have been made by businesses, churches, individuals and organizations. Boy Scouts and mail delivery persons have had food drives. Individuals have made donations in memory of loved ones. Businesses have had dress down days. Churches have had a once a month donations of food and money for Shepherd House. Teens have had dances and events where everyone brings food for our pantries. An individual requested that donations of food or money be made to a local pantry instead of presents at her 80th birthday party. Donations are made to honor someone or to mark an event.There are just a few of the many ways donations have been made. All donations of food and money are greatly appreciated and extremely necessary for the future of Shepherd House, Inc. to continue to provide their much needed services.Shepherd House Pantries are located in Beaver Meadows, Tresckow, Weatherly, Nesquehoning, Lansford, Summit Hill, Lehighton, Palmerton and Jim Thorpe.
