The March meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N and health enforcement officer Joshua Esposito in attendance.Esposito reportedly made inspections at the Tamaqua Diner, Happy Endings, Oracle Body Shop, American Legion Post 173, Pinz Pugan LLC, the Elk Lodge 592 and Sisters Cantina. During the previous month, he received and adjusted 17 complaints: three leaking sewers, one water line break, three places unfit for human habitation, five dog waste and five for trash. A total of 29 licenses were issued in February.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.Tax helpTax return assistance is available for low income and senior residents of Schuylkill County through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, sponsored by Schuylkill Community Action. Volunteers are available to help low income residents between the ages of 25 and 65 with their federal, state and local returns.VITA volunteers will be at the Lehigh Carbon Community College Morgan Center, 234 High St., every Wednesday from 5-7:15 p.m.For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call (570) 622-1995.Fitness programA free exerette fitness program, designed for the young at heart, will be offered at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., every Tuesday and Thursday in March. Peter and PaulStations of the Cross are held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays during Lent in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Holy Hour, recitation of the rosary and confessions begin at 6 p.m. A Holy Hour and confessions are also held Saturdays from 4-5 p.m.The choir rehearses Wednesdays after Stations of the Cross.Help will be needed on March 23 to strip palms in preparation for Palm Sunday Masses. Anyone able to assist may report to the social hall at 9 a.m.St. John UCCSunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the service. Sunday school for all ages is held at 11 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, spiritual council will meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. church service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.A community Lenten service will be held at 7:30 p.m., March 21, at Salem United Methodist Church, Drehersville.The consistory will meet at 7 p.m. on March 21.
