My name is Catrina Strubinger. I am only in 11th grade at Lehighton Area High School, but I am changing the education system of a third world country.

I created a nonprofit organization: Education Creations Across Nations (EducationCAN) that is achieving such a large task, one book at a time.In order to graduate in the state of Pennsylvania, I need to complete a graduation project. I had a couple of options to choose from for how I wish to complete my project, but the one that was the most alluring topic to me was the community service option, which I turned into an international service.This global component is what gave EducationCAN its platform, and then let it blossom into something more than just a graduation project.Through my organization, I collect books with educational purposes created by students of Lehighton Area middle and high schools. I will then be sending them overseas to schools in need of education materials.My intention is to help give children an education who are not able to receive one that is up to the same standards as mine.With the help of the teachers from both Lehighton Area middle and high schools, my organization was launched in their classrooms and made their students the authors of astonishing didactic books. Some of these students took to the computers to create books on PowerPoint and printed them out, while others used their artistic talents to create handmade books with a more personal touch.Presently, I have collected over 300 books with topics such as biology, geometry, music, poetry, astronomy, animals, literature, addition and subtraction, colors, chemistry, sports, creative topics such as The Seven Wonders of the World, geography, and many, many more. The options to support EducationCAN were endless for the teachers.The books I have collected will be sent to Soroti, Uganda. A graduate of Lehighton Area High School, Erika Cann, recently visited there on a missionary trip with Messiah College. She has given me great confidence that after meeting the children in Soroti, she knows they will greatly appreciate something like this from students in the United States.Erika informed me of the thousands of children who fill hundreds of schools with an average of about 200 children per teacher. Their school supplies are extremely limited, resulting in a poor education for the students. They are desperate to learn, but the situation to which they were born makes it almost impossible.I want to increase their chances for success; I truly believe that this organization can help change the lives of children forever. This is my chance to impact children's lives around the world in a positive way.
