Just ask John Schatz and Arlene Bowers, who rode their wave of fame straight to the top as they were crowned King and Queen of Hearts.The clients of Blue Mountain Health System's Adult Day Services Center in Palmerton earned that esteem at the center's ninth annual Valentine's Day Party.As he was crowned, Schatz, of Walnutport, expressed his joy."I feel like a million bucks," said Schatz, 85. "I love coming here to the center."Arlene Bowers, of Slatington, said she was "very surprised.""I have been coming here many years," said Bowers, 79. "I must have a lot of friends here who voted for me."Afterward, the fun continued as clients enjoyed musical entertainment, homemade cookies and ice cream.The Adult Day Service Center provides state-licensed respite care for older adults. In addition to free time and ample rest periods, clients participate in a wide variety of activities based on the client's particular abilities, including daily exercise, crafts, games, puzzles, pet therapy, cooking and baking, gardening, dancing, bingo, needlepoint and sewing, music and sing-alongs, "theme weeks" and field trips.Daily nursing supervision allows for the monitoring of clients' medical conditions.The center offers a warm, friendly atmosphere and the opportunity for seniors to develop friendships while participating in activities they enjoy.Participants also receive a light breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon snack, provided by the center.It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
