Pleasant Valley Middle School inducted 75 eighth-grade students into the Arthur A. Smith Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

Loretta Snyder, NJHS co-advisor, welcomed everyone to this proud moment in these young people's academic lives.Howard Drake, PVMS principal, explained how they qualified. Students are nominated by achieving a 94 percent cumulative weighted grade point average for the seventh grade. All grades must be better than 85 percent for all four marking periods.These students are then asked to write an essay about one of the five ideals of NJHS which are Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship and Character. After review of the essays, the students are granted membership into the society.Students inducted include: Jacob Adamski, Joshua Adamski, Kurt Ammerman, Jack Ardizzone, Alexandra Babu, Benjamin Bard, Christopher Barker, mark Bartolacci, Julia Beaubien, Michelle Bernard, Abiel Biney, Gina Bongiovanni, Sadie Borger, Bradley Brickman, Rachel Brush, Justin Chiong, Joseph Chiumento, Holly Diamond, Skylar Driscoll, Daniel Ejk, Dylan Firestone, Ashley Franklin, Rebecca Frantz, Viccilyn Garcia, Rachel Garcia-Paradizzo, Hannah Gruber, Zachary Hansen, Brett Hardy, Alexander Havens, Paige Hinton, Sophia Hochfeld, Hailey Holcomb, Jason Iadisernia, Sofia Janak, Veronica Jones, Jonathan Kautzsch, Christopher Kaye, Noel Kelly, Zlexis Keppel, Shelby Kiley and Brianna Kish.Also inducted were: Kelly Knaak, Ardita Komoni, Alyssa Kotzmann, Sierra Krechel, Sara Kron, Elizabeth Larregui, Bridget Lunney, Livia Mackes, Elizabeth Malozzi, Hunter Martello, Nicholas Massa, Tyler Massey, Jessica Massimino, Valerie Munoz, Joseph O'Connor, Ryan Prator, Brooke Pridham, Saige Rechenberger, Ryan Rimple, Abby Rohrbach, Natalia Salmon, Alexander Salvero, Kamryn Scrivens, Shaina Baylo, Sara Silliman, Shannon Simpson, Seth Slavin, Ekaterina Slozina, Daniel Smith, Taylor Steckel, Ashley Umstead, Jacob Westerman, Jacob Woodling.Lauren Travis, co-advisor, gave the history of NJHS, saying that it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the National Honor Society, founded in 1921, and NJHS, founded in 1929.NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
