Six first time offenders in the criminal justicesystem were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record his wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, the Commonwealth reserves the right to prosecute them on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Sara Elizabeth Backora, 30, of Albrightsville, was placed on a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. She was arrested on Aug. 11, 2012, along Holiday Drive, in Kidder Township, by township police. Given a test, the result was .22BAC.She was assessed $550 for the cost of the program, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Michelle Canzoneri, 27, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on July 3, 2012, along Catawissa St., in Nesquehoning, by borough police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance in a blood system.She was assessed $600 for the program, and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Aaron C. Doolittle, 19, of New York, N.Y., was placed for two years on a charge of indecent assault. He was arrested on June 9, 2012, by state police at Hazleton, for an incident in Lehigh Township at a camp site. The listed victim was a then 12-year-old girl. It was noted the parents of the girl approved the ARD placement.He was assessed $650, and ordered to render 100 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim or her family, make restitution of $243.40 to the victim's family for expenses, and submit a mental health evaluation report to the adult probation office for review.Ernesto Matos, 47, of Weatherly, was placed for six months on a theft of services charge. He was arrested by Weatherly police for illegally securing electrical service from the borough.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service, and make restitution of $85.80.Darian A. Murtagh, 26, of Philadelphia, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Feb. 12, 2012, along SR903 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was .09BAC.He was assessed $350, and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, and render 50 hours of community service.Brian Steven Romanchik, 25, of Summit Hill, was placed on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He was arrested on April 19, 2012, in the area of SR209 and Maple St., in Franklin Township, by state police at Lehighton.He was assessed $650, and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
