A Palmerton man was sentenced to a state jail term on Thursday afternoon in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to three theft incidents where he accepted money to do work but never did the work. He was one of 10 defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Businesses targetedBrent Rehrig, 37, pleaded to three misdemeanor counts of theft by deception. He was charged with taking money from three county businesses to install video surveillance equipment but never installed the equipment.The listed victims were Tom Friendly, the former Eagles Club in Lehighton; Keith Schafer, for his Diggity Dogs business in Lehighton; and Elizabeth Mulligan, for her business, The Gem Shop, in Jim Thorpe.Rehrig was recently sentenced in federal court in Philadelphia to serve one year and a day on unrelated counts, and has another case pending in Bucks County, where he was sentenced to serve six to 12 months on similar charges.Nanovic sentenced him to serve six to 24 months in prison consecutive to the Bucks County sentence on one theft count and placed him on probation for a year on each of the other two counts consecutive to the first count. His total sentence is six to 24 months in jail followed by two years probation.He was also ordered to make total resitution of $5.950, and supply a DNA sample. He was given credit for 115 days spent in jail on the charges.Other pleasOther defendants who entered pleas included:John Patrick Dunne, 61, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to two counts of identity theft. He was charged with forging the name of Robert Kujianik on two accounts - one for Blue Ridge Cable Television and one for Fingerhut stores, and running up bills on both.Nanovic placed him on probation on each count for a year, running concurrently, and ordered he make total restitution of $1,396.83.Dana J. Morgan Buck, 36, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of DUI. She was arrested on June 29, 2012, along Hickory Road, in Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .26BAC. Nanovic noted that the police report indicated that Buck exited her vehicle and it then drifted down a hill and crashed. Her two young children were in the car but not injured.Nanovic sentenced her to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, and get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.She will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.Charles W. Breiner Jr., 54, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of DUI on Aug. 11, 2012, along Long Run Road, by Franklin Township police. He was arrested after being involved in a crash. Given a test, the result was .18BAC.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, and get a D&A evaluation. It was noted Breiner has a second DUI count pending.Nathan Eroh, 28, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of false reports. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton, for reporting his credit card was being used by another unauthorized person, when, in fact, he used it.He was placed on probation for six months and must make at least five job applications a week to find fulltime employment.Kristy Ann Jones, 33, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of simple assault, institutional vandalism, and resisting arrest.She was arrested for an incident on Nov. 16, 2012, at her home at 1361 E. Lizard Creek Drive, in East Penn Township. State police at Lehighton responded to the home for a reported domestic dispute. On scene they found Michael P. Wallace on the floor in the kitchen bleeding from head wound cause by a knife.Jones denied stabbing Wallace, her live-in boyfriend, but said he threw a knife at him during a dispute. She resisted being taken into custody by the troopers and while in the back of the state police cruiser caused damages to the vehicle.On the assault count Nanovic sentenced her to time-served, (five days) to one year in jail. On the other two counts she was placed on probation for a year on each consecutive to the assault charge.She was also ordered to pay restitution to the state for damages to the police cruiser of $247.78, and get a D&A evaluation.Norman Lee Smith, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Oct. 21, 2012, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton, by borough police. Given a test, the result was .20BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Bobbi-jo Hunsicker, 36, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of DUI and driving while under suspension-DUI related. She was arrested on June 24, 2011, along SR209 by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .19BAC.On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced her to serve 10 days to six months in jail, a $500 fine, and one year license suspension.On the suspension count she was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.Nanovic gave her credit for spending a year in a rehabilitation inpatient program known as Teen Challenge in Philadelphia, and immediately paroled her.Steven David Holtzer, 21, of Lansford, pleaded to two counts of theft. He was arrested by Jim Thorpe police for two separate incidents, both occurring on Nov. 20, 2010. He admitted taking $30 from the cash register of hte Deezines Flower Shop and $20 from a jar of donations for Carbon County Friends of Animals.He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) prorbation program for first time offenders but was revoked from it for violating conditions.Nanvoic placed him on probation for six months. It was noted restitution has already been paid to the victims.Keith Weaver, 56, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernaila. He was arrested on Aug. 24, by Palmerton police for an incident in the area of 302 Delaware Avenue.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average close fo $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
