A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county jail term on Monday for drug dealing. He was one of two defendants who previously pleaded guilty to drug charges to be sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Franklin incidentCurtis Lee Margle, 21, of Lehighton, was sentenced to a total of nine to 23 months in prison on one count each of criminal conspiracy-possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Margle was arrested by Franklin Township police for an incident on Oct. 9, 2011, along SR209 at a traffic stop. He was found to have cocaine in his possession. The second charge stems from a incident in August 2011, in various locations in the county. The charge was filed by agents of the state Attorney General's (AG) office.Nanovic also ordered Margle to get an updated drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee. He was given credit for 21 days spent in jail on the charges.He will begin the jail term on Friday, Jan. 18, at 5 p.m.Jail incidentKaitlyn Jane Hill, 24, of Lehighton, was placed on probation for 24 months on a charge of criminal use of a communication device.She was charged by agents of the AG office with her part in a drug smuggling incident at the county prison. In January 2011 police arrested 11 persons, including some inmates, for having the drug suboxone smuggled into the jail underneath postage stamps on letters sent to the jail.At the time District Attorney Gary F. Dobias labeled the investigation of the smuggling, "Operation Postage Stamp."Hill was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, zero tolerance on D&A use, and have no contact with Daniel Thorpe, a co-defendant in the case.DUI caseJeremy David Gothard, 32, of Lehighton, was sentenced to a county jail term on charges of a driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on the DUI charge on July 13, 2011, along Trachsville Hill Road, in Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance. He was arrested on the possession count on July 7, 2011, by state police in the area of SR209 and Cherry Hill Road in Franklin Township, after troopers found him in a vehicle off the road.On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced him to serve 90 days in jail followed by nine months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring, and that followed by four years of probation. He was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, pay a fine of $1,500, and his license suspended for 18 months.He will begin the jail term on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. and was granted work release privileges.On the possession count he was fined $500.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
