Church parishioner Susan Seaver stands next to the Icon of Our Lady of Lansford following a recent service at the St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church in Lansford. Current administrator Reverend Vasyl Chepelskyy said, "The icon depicts Our Blessed Mother and the two industries that our area was known for." Standing in front of a mine, she holds two spools of thread and is standing next to a spinning wheel to represent the garment industry. She also holds a bird in her hand to depict the coal mining industry. The significance of the bird in the mine is if a bird died after being placed in the mine, that meant that there was dangerous gas present in the mine, an alarm for the miners. This Icon was commissioned in 1994 by Father Emil Paulshock, a former pastor of St. John's Parish, and was donated by a parishioner in memory of her late husband.
