Board of Health

The January meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N and health enforcement officer Joshua Esposito in attendance.Esposito provided his end-of-year report, encompassing the months of August to December 2012, noting he made 23 general and 7 seven spot check inspections, as well as responding to 46 complaints. There were no cases of reportable diseases for the year.The board also reorganized, retaining the current slate of officers going into 2013. Those officers are: Randolph Gormley, president; James Gormley, vice-president; Becker, secretary, Hadesty, health officer; and Esposito, enforcement officer. Board members and their terms of office are: Dr. Joanne Calabrese, Dec. 31, 2017; Becker, Dec. 31, 2013; Randolph Gormley, Dec. 31, 2014; James Gormley, Dec. 31, 2015; and Boettger, Dec. 31, 2016.The board will meet the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. this Thursday. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, beginning at 7:30 p.m.Help will be needed at 6 p.m. on Jan. 14 to take down the Christmas decorations in the church.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion and a children's message, offered by Marge Kropp, followed by children's Sunday school.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams, guest pastor, will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. church service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school and Confirmation class will meet at 9:30 a.m.Also this Sunday, Zion's will host a blood drive in honor of H.T. Fryer, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the social hall.
