A Schuylkill County man is facing various drug counts following an incident that occurred about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, in Luzerne County.

State police at Hazleton identified the defendant as Brett lee Blankenbiller, 42, of Hazleton.According to troopers on Sunday they obtained information during the course of a traffic stop that Blankebiller was in possession of a large quantity of synthetic narcotics, or bath salts, in a room 20 at the Penn Terrace Motel, at 1880 E. Broad St., Hazle Township.Troopers went to the motel at 6:45 a.m. to investigate the information received. The defendant was then contacted in his room and informed of the information received.Blankenbiller was asked if he had any bath salts and he indicated he had some in an orange in color backpack on the floor hear his bed and that the bath salts he had were legal becasue the formula is new and has not been banned.Permission was given to open the backpack and found were two envelopes which contained a sizeable quantity of plastic screw top containers which contained a white in color powder. One of the envelopes contained 45 plastic screw top containers labeled "white diamond dust."One of the envelops Blakenbiller showed troopers had two Ziploc freezer bags which contained bulk bath salts. The larger of the two Ziploc freezer bags contained an off white in color powder which had a field weight of 80 grams.The other compartments of the backpack had 235 paper and foil packets containing powders and pills with various labels indicative of synthetic stimulants or bath salts. Also inside the backpack was a purple in color cloth zipper bag containing $1,740 in U.S. currency.Blankenbiller was then placed under arrest and transported to the Hazleton barracks. Troopers said while at the barracks Blankenbiller stated he runs and maintains a website where the bath salts he had in his possession are listed for sale.
