At a special meeting of the Carbon County Republican Committee (CCRC) held Thursday evening, Jan. 3, Jeremy Glaush was elected the new Carbon County chairman, replacing MaryEllen Salerno.

Glaush, of Lehighton, has been an active supporter of the county GOP through social media and volunteering at numerous events. The committee people present to elect Glaush raised questions regarding conservative values, discussed the future direction of the county organization, and voiced opinions on how they believe the Carbon County GOP can continue to make a difference in the county, the Commonwealth, and the nation.Vice Chairman Steve Sofranko noted that the election was necessary because of the resignation of Salerno.During her two and a half years of service to the CCRC as chairwoman, the Carbon County GOP realized great progress. Among their accomplishments was the securing of the state representative and majority county commissioner seats. In addition, Carbon County voters selected Republican candidates for president, U.S. representative (11th), U.S. and state senators, auditor general, and state representative in the November 2012 general election.Sofranko also noted that the GOP headquarters remains open at 198 S. First St. in Lehighton and that he, as well as Lee Becker, secretary; and Kay Becker, treasurer; will continue their duties with the CCRC.
