A few snow showers are forecast for tonight, which should not put a damper on the area's New Year's Eve festivities across Carbon County and in surrounding communities.

Daytime temperatures for today will hover around 34 degrees and by nightfall, temperatures will drop to 29 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers, according to the Weather Channel.Across the area, New Year's Eve revelers can take part in Tamaqua's celebration at the high-rise; and in Palmerton, the Covered Bridge Inn also has an event planned that gives those in Lower Carbon County the opportunity to usher in the new year with friends and family.In Tamaqua, the Eagle will rise tonight for the 14th time at 11:59 p.m. The event is held at the ABC Tamaqua High Rise, the tallest structure in Schuylkill County, and is free for the community.The first ball-rise took place at the high-rise in 1998 as part of the borough's Founding Bicentennial celebration. For this celebration, eagles flap their wings up the side of the building, culminating in the lighting the of the New Year sign at the top at midnight.The Covered Bridge Inn in Little Gap, will host the 10th annual New Year's Eve Gala and Ball Drop in Little Gap Square.Just before midnight, there will be a 50-foot ball drop.For Tuesday, the first day of 2013, the temperature should reach 33 degrees and will be cloudy, with a few flurries forecast and by nightfall, temperatures will drop to 20 degrees and be mostly cloudy.Saturday's snowfall gave the area a coating of white. The hilltop community of Summit Hill garnered the most snowfall. At six inches of snow, it brought in two inches more than New Tripoli, which received four inches. Blakeslee received about five inches and adjacent Albrightsville received more than four and 1/2 inches. Slatington to its south, received close to five inches.
