A Carbon County prison inmate has been charged with drug and other offenses by Nesquehoning police.

Michael J. Macaluso, 33, faces charges of having contraband/controlled substance; possession of contraband/telecommunication device by an inmate; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges were filed by Officer Dane O'Brien.

According to an affidavit of probable cause at 10:14 p.m. Aug. 16, O'Brien was called to the prison after Macaluso was allegedly found with a packet of Suboxone, a schedule II narcotic, during a routine strip search.

O'Brien was told that Macaluso also had a cell phone, which had been found in clothing near Macaluso's bed.

O'Brien spoke with Macaluso in the prison's booking interview room but Macaluso said he didn't want to talk with O'Brien about the situation.
