Some 4,000 faithful worshippers turned out in the rain and windswept afternoon yesterday for the annual procession in honor of St. Theresa, the Little Flower, sponsored by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, New Columbus. The celebration came at the close of the nine-day Novena in the saint's honor.
The Shower of Roses which is usually held in conjunction with the fete had to be postponed until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. One million rose petals were to be dropped from low-flying planes over the village, but wind and rain conditions made it inadvisable.
Participating in the procession were the clergy, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, the Rose Queen and her party, the Marian High School Band of Panther Valley and the Mother of Grace Band, New Columbus and school children.
