Tamaqua woman facing charges

Published November 16. 2013 09:28AM

A Tamaqua woman has been charged in connection with an altercation at the Hang Loose Bar in the borough on Nov. 4.

Police received a report concerning an alleged fight at the bar. The bartender identified Barbara Ann Bankes, 47, of 66 Bowe St., as the person who started the disturbance. Bankes allegedly tried to start fights with several patrons and actually struck one person.

Back outside the officers noticed a woman fitting Bankes' description walking in the area of the Greenwood Street bridge. She was stopped and questioned.

The officer noticed that Bankes exhibited several signs of intoxication. She denied being in the Hang Loose, despite several witness confirmations. When she continued to be uncooperative, she was arrested and lodged in the cell block.

Bankes was cited for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and simple trespass.
