Driver runs light, causes four-vehicle crash
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS One of four cars involved in a Schuylkill County crash Thursday lies on a flatbed truck.
A driver ran a red light at a Schuylkill County intersection and caused a four vehicle crash. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the intersection of state routes 443 and 183, in Friedensburg, Wayne Township.
Troopers said Lois S. Zanini, 86, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 1994 Buick LeSabre, was westbound on 443 and failed to stop for a red traffic light at the intersection.
Her vehicle struck a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Gregory G. Nason, 21, of Schuylkill Haven, broadside pushing it into a 2002 Mercedes-Benz operated by Jeffrey P. Paul, 66, of Lancaster. Paul was alongside Nason when the collision occurred.
The LeSabre continued to push the Jeep through the intersection in a northwest direction and collided with a 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by Karen M. Harris, 42, of Branchdale. Upon impact the Mercedes spun 90 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction and came to rest in the median. The other vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of 183.
Zanini and Nason were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries. Paul and Harris were not injured.
Troopers said Zanini was cited for the red light violation.
