Kidder EAC plans spring workshop

Published February 21. 2013 05:03PM

The Kidder Township EAC held its February meeting a week later than usual. The council spent most of its time discussing the upcoming annual spring workshop.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 11, this year. The event will run from 9 a.m. until noon.

There will be two or three topics covered this year. One topic, which has already been confirmed, is "Birds of Prey." Susan Gallagher of the Carbon County Environmental Center will be presenting a program, complete with live birds.

There will also be a presentation by the Penn State Cooperative Extension. While there are a number of additional topics under consideration, nothing has been selected at this time.

The annual workshop is open to the general public and will take place at the Kidder Township building.

The EAC estimates that they have distributed over 2,300 copies of the "Guide to protecting Kidder Township water," which is commonly known as the "Kidder Township Blue and Green Pages."

"The blue and green pages are an environmental resource manual," said council member Ed O'Melia. "It was compiled to educate all ages on protecting our water, the watershed and the handling of household waste. It illustrates how you, as a person, can help protect the environment and the various habitats in our area."

Council secretary, Cathy Golomb also pointed out that the book includes QR Codes.

"The codes can be scanned with your smart phone and it takes you directly to a website that further discusses the subject. Since the websites are updated regularly, the information in the book remains up-to-date as well," said Golomb.

Copies of the "blue and green" pages are available to the public at the Kidder Township building.

The EAC meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.
