Tribe, Bears get soccer wins

Lehighton and Pleasant Valley posted shutout victories in boys soccer to highlight Friday's scholastic sports action.



Anthony Rossino had a hat trick to spark Lehighton to a 7-0 non-conference win over visiting Hazleton.

Zach Christoff recorded a goal and an assist for the Indians. Drake Didyoung, Frank Bokan and Anthony Farano added single scores. Dan Baka and Cole Christman both notched two assists.

Nazareth-Pleasant Vy.

Three different players scored as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Nazareth.

Noah Fulcomer, Phil Michlik and Connor Phillips scored the goals for the Bears.

PV's Brandon Percey and Gabe Baxevane-Connell were credited with assists.

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Catasauqua spoiled opening night for Northern Lehigh, handing it a 4-1 non-league setback.

Herman Diamacoune led the Roughies with two goals.

Sean Mulcahy scored the Bulldogs' lone goal.



Kassie Kilanowski scored a hat trick to lift Northwestern to a 6-1 non-conference victory over visiting Allentown Central Catholic.

Paige Horner, Kylee Bennett and Haley Dietrich added single scores for the Tigers.

The Tigers' keeper Laura Kotula finished with six saves.


PM West-Palmerton

Three second half goals helped Pocono Mountain West pull away for a 4-2 non-conference victory over Palmerton.

Brinn Doherty posted two unassisted goals for the Bombers.

Nikki Brigante and Kira Flaherty led the Panthers with two goals apiece.

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Rachel Pappas spearheaded Northern Lehigh to a 5-1 victory over visiting Catasauqua.

Pappas scored two goals and two assists for NL, while Karlyna Kemery finished with two assists and a goal.

The Bulldogs' Morgan Zellner and Lexie Merkle added single scores.


L. Lehman-Weatherly

Lake Lehman cruised to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 non-conference win over Weatherly.

Samantha Hartz paced the Wreckers with six digs and two blocks, while Kelly Fisher added six digs. Teammate Megan McClintock (four digs, two kills) and Shannon Sarosky (three assists, two digs) contributed in the setback.

In the JV game, Lake Lehman posted a 25-5, 25-14 victory over Weatherly.

Easton-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley opened the regular season with a 29-27, 25-19, 25-15 non-conference win over visiting Easton.

Kiersten Griesback led the Bears' attack with 18 assists and 10 digs while Mackenzie Dorney chipped in with 12 digs, four kills and three aces. Ashley Rivera added 12 kills, four digs and one ace to the victory.

In the JV match, Pleasant Valley scored a 25-20, 25-17 win over Easton.


PM West-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley blanked Pocono Mountain West for a 7-0 Mountain Valley Conference win.

Madison Olexson, Emily Thek and Kara Urland swept singles' play to help pace the Bears to victory.

Pleasant Valley moves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the MVC.

Pen Argyl

Northwestern squeezed past Southern Lehigh by a single stroke to score a 431-432 victory. The Tigers also walked off with a 431-475 over Pen Argyl for a Colonial League sweep.

Cole Miller carded a five-under-par 67 to pace the Tigers while teammate Nick Vecellio shot an even par score of 72 on the day.

Northwestern moves to 8-2 on the season in the Colonial League.
