Pleasant Valley's Dakota Everett is in some pretty unique company.

Everett was selected to the 2012 Pennsylvania Class AAAA All-State Football Team on Thursday afternoon.Not only does that make Everett one of a very select group of players in the state, but it makes him just the second football player in Pleasant Valley history to receive that honor. Everett joins former Penn State standout John Blick as the only Bear players to be named All-State. Blick was a Big School (AAA-AAAA) selection on the offensive line in both 1994 and 1995, making third team as a junior and second team as a senior.Everett found out about his all-state selection is a place that helped him achieve the honor."I was in the weight room after school yesterday with Ardian (Komoni) and coach (Terwilliger) came in, handed me the phone, and congratulated me on making the All-State team," said Everett. "That was pretty cool. It's a pretty overwhelming feeling to receive that type of recognition."Everett finished the season with a team-high 136 tackles from his middle linebacker position. He also had five quarterback sacks and nine tackles for loss."This is a tremendous honor for Dakota and our entire program," said Pleasant Valley coach Jim Terwilliger. "Only a very elite set of athletes are recognized among the best in the state and Dakota is now part of the group."The selection didn't come by accident. It's a culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication. Dakota worked extremely hard to make himself an outstanding football player. He put in countless hours of work both on and off the field."Everett's play on both sides of the ball and the leadership he provided helped the Bears compile an 8-4 record and advance to the District 11 Class AAAA title game."This will be a great example for the younger kids in our program," said Terwilliger. "They have seen how hard Dakota works and now they'll see how that hard work paid off. Hopefully, this will have a trampoline effect on the kids in our program."A senior who was also the Bears' starting tight end, Everett will leave a huge void in the Pleasant Valley program."Dakota plays the game the right way," said Terwilliger. "He goes hard every play he's on the field. Whether it was a preseason practice or a district playoff game, he gave us everything he had. I can't think of a more deserving individual for this type of honor."Everett is now looking ahead to playing at the next level.Being named All-State is great, but it was never a dream of mine," he said. "I don't play for medals or trophies or awards. I just love the game. It's a great feeling being out on the field with your teammates and competing."My dream has been to play Division I football. I've heard from some schools and I'm going to be making some visits after Christmas. I'm pretty excited about that opportunity. I'm definitely going to see Maine and New Hampshire and there are a few other schools I will be visiting as well."
