Blaze destroys home in Penn Forest Twp.

Six people were left homeless after a raging fire destroyed their spacious home along Mattawa Trail in Mount Pocohontas, Penn Forest Township, Friday afternoon.

Neighbors reported seeing flames leaping from the first floor windows and by the time firefighters arrived on scene, the two-story wood frame single family dwelling was fully involved in flames.Fire companies from throughout Carbon and Monroe counties battled the fire for hours having to tank water into the remote site.Responding were firefighters from Penn Forest Township, Albrightsville, Kidder Township, Lake Harmony, Franklin Township, Jim Thorpe, Towamensing Township, Kunkletown, Polk Township, West End, and Tunkhannock Township.There were no reported injuries.The firefighters contained the fire to the involved dwelling.A state police fire marshall reportedly has been summoned to assist in the investigation.
