PAHS has good showing at Community Fest

President Jane Borbe of the Palmerton Area Historical Society said sales were good at the Community Festival and at the Heritage Center, which was open during the festival.

At the Oct. 8, meeting George Ashman said acquisitions were received from five people.Peter Kern attended the preview party for Franz Kline at the Allentown Art Museum. He said 5,000 people attended.The application for historic district was not accepted by the state because it did not contain information about what made Palmerton unique. More information will be included and the application will be resubmitted.The "postcard" book has sold 300 copies. It makes a great Christmas gift for people who have moved out of the area, said Kern.The wall at the Little White Church has been replaced and some landscaping is planned.A structural engineer is coming to inspect the beams in the basement.The 2012 membership is at an all-time high, reported Borbe.Board of directors members Borbe and Bill Smelas' terms are expiring. They were reelected to their positions.On Oct. 28, Dale Freudenberger will lead a program on Victorian funeral and burial customs of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It will be held at the Little White Church, 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will include a funeral (raisin) pie. Attendees are urged to wear black.Dick Nothstein said the veterans' committee hopes to have the Veterans' Memorial ready for dedication before the parade. Twenty of the 24 columns were installed by Oct. 8. Other names will be collected and added at a later date if some people have been missed.The ecumenical service at the Little White Church will be held Dec. 2, and on Dec. 8 the Concourse Club will have its open-house tour.On Dec. 10, the society members' banquet will be held at Blue Ridge Country Club.Kathy Long will tell stories. She is "the most delightful person to tell a story," said Borbe.Mary Beth Beers is about to go to press with a holiday memories book about residents. It will have some drawings and will also make a good gift.The book will be available at the banquet.
