Pregnant woman injured during two vehicle crash in Tuscarora

ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS A Tamaqua teen escaped injury when he or she pulled out into the path of an oncoming vehicle on Route 209 in Schuylkill Township Saturday, but will be charged with failing to stop at a stop sign, according to state police at Frackville. The teenager, a 16-year-old whom police did not identify, pulled out onto the highway from North Catawissa Street at about 9:50 p.m., directly into the path of a Chevy Malibu driven by Melanie Mae Kline, 27, of Mary D, according to a report from Trooper Brian L. Walters. Kline was unable to avoid the collision. The teen's 2006 Scion TC spun counter clockwise, and came to rest facing south on Route 209. After impact, Kline's car traveled north, off the highway, for about 75 feet, and struck a tree. It came to rest facing north over an embankment. The teen's car was sitting in the southbound lane of Route 209, with smoke coming from the engine compartment. The engine caught fire, but state police were able to extinguish it quickly. Tuscarora fire company and Tamaqua EMS responded. Kline, who is pregnant, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for evaluation.
