'County Spectacular' at Carbon Fair, Saturday

Five country bands will be performing at the Carbon County Fair on Saturday, with a giant jam session serving as the grand finale.

The "Country Spectacular" gets underway at 1 p.m. with the jam session set for 9:30 p.m.Participants are:• 1 p.m. - Tracy Lee.• 3 p.m. - The Hawks.• 5 p.m. - Joe Bonson & Coffee Run.• 6:45 p.m. - Brooke Unger.• 7:30 p.m. - The Cramer Brothers.• 9:30 p.m. - Jam Session.For fans of The Hawks, the Carbon Fair has a special importance. Lisa and Duane Hawk had retired from performing, but have opted to continue making special appearances at the Carbon County Fair.The Cramer Brothers have performed in Nashville and have several CDs. Last night, members of the band assisted with a concert by Crazy Hearts.Tonight at the fair, Layne Roberts, who is known as "The Doc" on Penn's Peak Radio, will be on the main stage at 5:30 p.m.After that, it will be music from the 50s as The Fabulous Hubcaps entertain with their "Grease Show."The Hubcaps are quite a success story.What began thirty-seven years ago as Harvey Hubcap and the Do Ron Ron has evolved into The Fabulous Hubcaps, one of the nation's most sought after oldies show bands.On any given month, their schedule may take them from Miami to Pittsburgh, Atlanta to Detroit, or Albany to Washington, DC. Whether a black-tie formal affair for the Northern Virginia Hospital, a 50's Sock Hop for the ASPCA or the Annual Blow-Out at the Nantucket Yacht Club, the Fabulous Hubcaps have been the choice of entertainment for decades.The band has performed on the South Lawn of The White House for the 1995 Press Corps Picnic, and sang The National Anthem in Orioles Park at Camden Yards. They have performed at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio for The Goodguys/PPG Nationals, and were mentioned in the 2003 Collector's Calendar Issue of Street Rodder Magazine.The group has performed at Inaugurations for Governors Wilkerson and Patton of Kentucky, as well as being invited to appear at The Kentucky Derby in 1993. The Hubcaps performed at the Inaugural Ball for Governor Joe Manchin of West Virginia.Last night at the fair, the country band Crazy Heart sang before several hundred people delighting the audience with such staples as "All My Exes Live In Texas" by George Strait, "Watermelon Crawl" by Tracy Byrd, and "Walking After Midnight" by Patsy Cline.As they played, line dancers enjoyed themselves on a bandstand next to the stage.
