Two are arrested in Carbon incident

Two persons were arrested and imprisoned after an incident at 5:25 p.m. July 23 in Lower Towamensing Township and Parryville.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said Alan James Arthofer, 22, of Bowmanstown, and Chad R. Mack, 23, of Palmerton, were arraigned before Magisterian District Judge William Kissner and committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of $50,000 bail.Police said it is alleged they went to the property of Ross C. Smith, 23, of 635 Club Road, Lower Towamenisng Township, where they took a 1998 Chevrolet truck that Smith had been working on.Police said Arthofer and Mack fled the area for Parryville, where they created a disturbance beford fleeing that borough.They were later stopped on Cherry Hill Road in the area of Rt. 209, at which time police found them to be in possession of a loaded stolen Savage rifle. police said Arthofer was also found to be under the influence of marijuana and in possession of drug paraphernalia.
