A Tamaqua woman, who previously pleaded guilty to three driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol charges, received an extensive jail sentence imposed by President Judge Willliam E. Baldwin in Schuylkill County court last week.

Maureen Erin Pickford, 47, of 524 Arlington St., on her third count of DUI was sentenced by Baldwn to serve 180 days to five years in the county prison.She was first cited by Rush Township Patrolman Jonathan McHugh, when stopped on Jan. 20, 2010, on Hometown HIll; the second arrest was by Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Rodgers, on April 30, 2011, at the Five Points Intersection and the third arrest by Tamaqua Patrolman Matthew Bynon, on Oct. 29, 2011, on Mountain Avenue.Pickford entered a guilty plea to the three charges last May 23 and the court ordered a pre-sentence investigative (PSI) report prepared by the adult probation department and deferred sentencing until now.Fines of $2,500 were imposed, she also must pay $700 to the Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $350 to the MCARE fund, $150 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund, $180 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC), and receive outpatient treatment.On summary charges of careless driving and failing to drive at a safe speed was fined $50 plus $100 costs.Others sentencedJamie Lamar Koch, 48, Sweet Arrow Lake Road, Pine Grove Township, charged by Trooper Robert Oakley last Oct. 6 at 23 Meadowbrooke Drive, Wayne Township, with possession of drug paraphernalia, was sentenced to serve 12 months on probation, fined $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, and perform 35 hours of community service. He had entered a guilty plea to the charge last June 1 and sentence was deferred to have a PSI report prepared.Keith Walter Lash Sr., 49, Pottsville, charged by Pottsville Patrolman James Englert, with making a false report was sentenced to serve three to 12 months in the county prison with the sentence to begin at the expiration of a sentence he received on a DUI charge of 48 hours to six months. He received credit for serving 39 days in prison.On the DUI charge he also must pay a fine of $500, pay $100 to the SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, $50 to MCARE fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center and receive outpatient counseling.He had entered guilty pleas to the charges last December. He also was ordered to make restitution of $300 for knocking over a sign on E. Norwegian St.Each defendant must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
