Jim Messina at Penn's Peak Friday evening

Jim Messina will be performing Friday, July 20, at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

The concert begins at 8 p.m.Jim is not only a musician, he is also a knowledgeable and highly skilled recording, mixing and mastering engineer and a producer.Actually, he almost gave up playing professionally at one point, but Buffalo Springfield changed his mind. He joined the group as a bassist and also produced their final album.Jim went from Buffalo Springfield to Poco where he helped them carve out the genre referred to as country/rock.After leaving Poco, he yearned for getting back into the producers seat. It was not long and Jim was rewarded with a six album production deal with Columbia Records. The first project for Jim was a young singer-songwriter named Kenny Loggins.Jim became an integral part of Kenny's debut album and, next thing you know, the two were a major selling duo. Loggins & Messina released nine albums with sales of over 14 million units. Their sound was a diverse mix of folk, country/rock, jazz and even classical. After those seven years, Jim took some time off, but went right back to the studio where he made three solo albums and reunited with Poco.Jim found that he enjoyed the solo gigs and eventually formed his own band to tour with and do his own material. As Jim says, "The only thing I hope for is that what I do will be inspiring to enough people that it will become a part of their lives and create a life of its own."Doors open at 6 p.m. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Tickets on the day of the show are $28.
