Traffic stop leads to wanted person

A traffic stop in Tamaqua last Friday resulted in an arrest and imprisonment for one man.

Patrolman Joseph Krebs stopped a black Harley Davidson motorcycle on Mauch Chunk Street at 11:45 a.m. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Robert Anguist, 48, of 301 1/2 Penn St., Tamaqua. Anguist turned off the ignition and began walking toward the officer, who advised him to stop.Instead, Anguist mounted the bike and headed north on SR309, passing several vehicles in a no passing zone. Krebs notified Schuylkill County Communications and alerts were sent out to Rush Township and local police departments. Within 10 minutes, it was reported that a black Harley had been involved in a wreck and the operator had fled on foot.A short time later, Rush Township Sgt. Duane Frederick observed Anguist in the 300 block of East Union Street.Anguist was arrested and arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, on charges related to the traffic stop, accident and eluding police. Meanwhile, officers discovered an active felony warrant for the suspect, issued by Florida officials.He was detained in the county prison, Pottsville.
