The streets of Linz, Austria, will soon be filled with the sounds of music as the world's best tuba and euphonium players gather for the annual International Tuba and Euphonium Conference and a Tamaqua man will be right in the center of things.

Drew Bonner, son of Joseph and Sandy Bonner of Tamaqua, will make the trip half way around the world with the 15 member Pennsylvania State University Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. The group has been invited to participate and perform at the 2012 ITEC in Linz from June 23 through July 1.The Penn State ensemble and other invitees will team up with orchestras, composers and audiences as they also delve into technology and theater. Participants will have the opportunities to attend workshops, classes, presentations, recitals, concerts and competitions.The PSU group is scheduled to perform on Tuesday and again on Wednesday, June 26 and June 27. The ensemble is under the direction of Professor Velvet Brown, a world famous tuba artist who is a Fulbright scholar and founding member of the International Women's Brass Conference and the Pennsylvania Brassworks.The seminars will range from the historical beginnings of brass instruments through modern day techniques and the electronics of tomorrow. Every musical style will be featured in the concerts, from the classics to what promises to be incredible world premiers.Bonner is a 2010 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and fulfilled a life long dream when he was selected as a member of the Penn State Marching Blue Band in his freshman year at the university.
