Indeed, the force was with the students who participated in the annual Family Fun Reading Night held recently at S.S. Palmer Elementary.The galactic adventure to help promote reading and literacy in the Star Wars Galaxy began in the cafeteria.As per the challenge, the students were charged with completing the mission within an hour-and-a-half for it to be considered a true success.Students, along with their family members who accompanied them, kept busy as they explored several different literacy stations.Kindergarten pupil Alexander Conze was eager to complete the task at hand."I'm going to the volcano next," said Alexander, 6. "I'm having fun."His mother, Laura Conze, said the activities made for a terrific family-oriented event.Just down the hall, Nathan Thompson, a third grade student at S.S. Palmer, enjoyed his green-colored Yoda ice cream.At another station,Tyler Hager, a first grade pupil at Parkside Education Center, clearly was preoccupied."I'm cutting out my Yoda," said Tyler, 7. "I thought it would be fun."The purpose of the program was to promote the importance of literacy with the students and their families, according to Holly Sell, Title I Reading Specialist, Parkside Education Center.
