Boy hit in Tamaqua

Isiah Jimenez, 11, was struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while crossing the Five Points, state routes 209 and 309, intersection in Tamaqua with friends around 2 p.m. on Saturday. A number of good samaritans and local firefighters could be seen helping the crying boy as he laid on the road. They also helped Tamaqua police control traffic prior to the response from emergency personnel. Responding were paramedics from Tamaqua, Lansford and Lehighton. Jimenez is the son of Naomi Ellison of Tamaqua. The driver of the SUV, Lynn York of Tamaqua, also comforted the boy and helped control traffic around the scene during the incident. Police officers said police surveillance cameras at the Five Points showed the boys running across the street while traffic lights were still green and the pedestrian cross walk displayed Do Not Walk. The boy was taken via ambulance to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, with injuries to his foot and leg.
