Man injured after hitting pole in Tamaqua

ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to extricate a man from his grey Toyota Corolla after he struck a pole just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday on Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua. The man was taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital via Lansford Ambulance. Responding were South Ward Fire Company, East End Fire Company, Citizen's Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue and others. Tamaqua Fire Police closed that section of Owl Creek Road during the response. The driver was identified as William Schweitzer of Hazleton. Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Rodgers is the investigating officer. Paramedics and firefighters carry the injured man via stretcher to an ambulance.
