The crash of a small, two-seater Piper Cub aircraft in Penn Forest Township at 3:10 p.m. caused the death of its two occupants in a Mother's Day tragedy. They were Oliver J. Mummey, 54, Slatington, a photographer, and his pilot, Abner O. Hinkle, 52, of Palmerton. The crash occurred a short distance off Route 903, near where it intersects with a road leading to the Howard Johnson Restaurant. Trooper Edwin Smith of the state police at Lehighton said the plane crashed nose first after going into a slow spin.
