Heritage Hill man celebrates 90 years

Daniel T. Novitsky, a resident of Heritage Hill in Weatherly, recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
He was born on March 23, 1922 in Hazleton. He graduated from Hazleton High School in 1938.
During World War II Dan was in the U.S. Army 30th Infantry Division, where he calculated artillery targets for 105 mm howitzers.
He was part of the Omaha Beach invasion, and fought through France and Belgium. As honor for his service, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Dan was married for 61 years to Anna (Brazzo) Novitsky, until her death in 2007.
They moved to Weatherly in 1964, where Dan was purchasing manager and treasurer of the Weatherly Foundry & Manufacturing Company until his retirement.
Dan was involved in volunteer work for St. Nicholas R.C. Church, the United Way, Weatherly Band Parents, and several athletic groups.
He and his wife had four children: Anita McCartney, Jim Thorpe; Arlene Swantko, Drums; David, Weatherly; and Alice Houk, Gaithersburg, Md. Dan has nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A party was held in his honor at Heritage Hill.
