Three unbeaten teams remaining

The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) winter basketball league passed the halfway point of the season, with three teams still sporting an unblemished record.

One of those teams will fall from the ranks next Wednesday when Cuz-N-Joe's Place collides with defending league champion Ryan's Oil & Heating at 7:45 p.m. in the Tamaqua Area Athletic Center.RESULTSSchick's Cafe Calcutta-Ryan's Oil & HeatingRyan's Oil & Heating remained undefeated on the season with a 68-57 victory over Schick's Cafe Calcutta.Mike Stankiewitch led Ryan's with 17 points, while John Scheuer (13), Ted Styka (12) and Joe Schaeffer (11) followed closely behind.For Schick's Cafe Calcutta, Joe Tamagini buried five three-pointers and tallied a game-high 21 points. Dennis McGinley added four treys for 12 points.The Batter's Box-Midas Touch Hair SalonThe Batter's Box picked up its first win of the season with a 49-38 victory over Midas Touch Hair Salon.Steve Strauss drained four three-pointers for 12 points to pace The Batter's Box, while Bejtullah Mehmeti tacked on 10 points.Andrew Michalik, John Demyanovitch and John Knect scored six points apiece to lead Midas Touch.R.R. Frey Services-Longboard SurfersR.R. Frey Services kept its undefeated record intact, but it wasn't easy, as the men in orange escaped a 60-56 overtime victory over the Longboard Surfers.Dave Wilson scored a game-high 23 points, including a 10-for-12 performance from the foul line. Wilson scord six of his team's eight points in overtime. Ryan Achenbach also added 15 points for R.R. Frey.For the Longboard Surfers, Thomas Tinsley and Omar Jimenez scored 12 points apiece.Pereira's/Joey B's-Cuz-N-Joe's PlaceCuz-N-Joe's Place exploded to a 39-20 halftime lead and never looked back, en route to a 73-63 victory over Pereira's Kwik Stop/Joey B's.Jon Veet was once again a one-man wrecking crew, as the league's leading scorer accounted for 13 field goals, four three-pointers and a game-high 31 points.
