MCLP cabin staysto cost more

Planning a summer vacation at Mauch Chunk Lake Park? It may cost a bit more this year.

Carbon County commissioners on Thursday signed off on rates approved Nov. 9 by the county Parks and Recreation Committee. Under the price structure, a five-night, midweek cabin stay (from Sunday through Thursday), will cost county residents $165 and noncounty residents $230. The price excludes the 6 percent sales tax. The amounts reflect about a 17.9 percent price increase.Park Director David H. Horvath wrote in a memo to commissioners that "there is a high demand for cabins, and midweek rentals have risen significantly over the years."He also wrote that the midweek rate was not adjusted when cabin rental prices were last adjusted in 2006.Also, family memberships for up to four members will cost $40 before May 20, and $50 beginning May 20 for county residents. Non-residents will pay $75 prior to May 20 and $85 beginning May 20.Family memberships are for parents and dependent children through the summer of twelfth grade. Currently, the rates are a flat fee, regardless of family size.Individual memberships cost $20 before May 20, and $25 as of May 20 for county residents. Non-residents pay $40 before May 20 and $45 as of May 20.Vehicle pass fees are $5 for each additional vehicle. The first vehicle pass is included with the camping reservation. Currently, additional vehicles are assessed a $3 fee. Visitors are asked to park additional vehicles in the overflow parking areas.
