Jim Thorpe woman celebrates 90th birthday

Elaine "Dolly" (West) Watto recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born on Aug. 3, 1922.

She attended school in East Mauch Chunk, and is a lifetime resident of East Mauch Chunk, which is now Jim Thorpe.Dolly is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and has been active in her community over the years.She continues to conduct worship services at a local convalescent home for the elderly, and she still tends her own garden.Dolly celebrated 60 years of marriage with her late husband Peter. She has three children: Beverly (Watto) Putt of Cherryville; Terry Watto of Lehighton; and Barry Watto of Jim Thorpe.She has seven living grandchildren, one deceased grandchild, and 15 great-grandchildren.Highlighting her 90th birthday was a trip to Lancaster to attend the production of "Jonah" at the Millennium Sight and Sound Theatre, followed by dinner at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord with many of her family members.An unexpected surprise occurred when a group of young boys gathered around her at Shady Maple and sang Happy Birthday.
