They reflected on their courageous acts of patriotism over a hearty breakfast.

Indeed, it was a time for reflection at the second annual Veteran Honorary Brunch and Entertainment Gala held recently at the Village at Palmerton.A total of 30 veterans and spouses attended the event, according to Norma Kunkel, director of marketing and admissions.Kunkel said those who attended were served quiche, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage links, toast, pastries, coffee and juice.Afterward, they gathered around the fireplace to listen to guest speaker Col. George H. Duell Jr., Korean War Ambassador for the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee.Duell said he will continue to gather information on Korean War veterans to be sure they are recognized for their contributions in that respective war.From there, veterans and their spouses were entertained by Hal Brister, who performed favorite tunes from the past.Veteran Ronald Wentz of Palmerton, who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, said he was grateful to the Village for the observance."It's nice to be recognized; Vietnam vets didn't get much recognition until the last couple of years," Wentz said. "It was a nice meal, and I want to thank the nice people for doing stuff like this."Kunkel said the event was a gesture the facility felt it could do to show its appreciation for our veterans."All in all, it was a heartfelt tribute to our local veterans," Kunkel said.
